Lexington Arts & Crafts Society:
The Basketry Guild
130 Waltham Street, Lexington, MA 02421
Formed in 1998 with ten charter members, the Basketry Guild meets in the Seminar Room at the Society. We meet monthly on the first Saturday at 10:00 a.m. to transact necessary business, to weave and to learn from one another.
The Guild’s purpose is to foster interest in basketry, to share our skills and enthusiasm, and to support LACS, which provides us with space to pursue our craft. We sponsor workshops, open to the public and taught by nationally and internationally recognized basketmakers. Our workshop media have inlcuded reed, metal, black ash, willow, natural materials, Nantucket and painted paper. In addition we hold small, Guild only, classes taught by our own talented members.
Guild members must be members of LACS and participate in a few hours of LACS volunteer activities in addition to discharging Guild responsibilities. LACS annual dues are $100.00.
Guild dues are currently $25.00. Members are required to donate basketry items to be sold at the Annual Fall Fair, an activity to benefit LACS. We encourage group efforts as well as individual contributions. If a member does not donate goods, a $50.00 cash donation is required. The proceeds all go to LACS funding.
Members who have fulfilled their Fair obligations may sell their products through the Holiday Marketplace, which runs during December. It’s a great opportunity to market baskets at a pleasant, well attended event.
We invite you to attend a monthly meeting to learn more about us.
Our contact person is Cheryl Reif, 978-922-0377 or clr187@comcast.net. Checking in with her is advisable, as sometimes we are forced to change meeting dates.
